Are you an expert, author or entrepreneur who is feeling the urge to expand your influence?  Getting publicity is an excellent way to do that.  So how do you know if you’re ready for publicity?  If you answer TRUE to any of these statements, that could give you a clue:

  • Every time you see an expert on TV who specializes in the same industry as you, you secretly envy them and say something like this: “I could’ve done waaay better than that!”
  • People constantly ask for your help with “that thing you do…” and you do it for free.
  • You have an inspiring story that led you to do what you do.
  • You’ve proven that your strategies, tactics and tips really do solve people’s problems.
  • People see you as an expert in your field.
  • You have a great personality and you’re not afraid to let it show.
  • You know it’s time for more people to hear what you have to say.

If you answered “true” to any of these questions, it’s time to work on your publicity strategy.  So how do you do that exactly without getting confused?  I’ll tell you next week!

6 beliefs that may be holding black women entrepreneurs back – Part 2

Don't let these beliefs hold you back!

Last week in part one of this 2-part series, I shared 3 beliefs that may be holding black women entrepreneurs back.  Many people responded saying they had indeed struggled in those areas and urged me to release part two, so here goes.

As I said in the last post, it’s important for us as women entrepreneurs to be both service-driven and profit-focused. However it takes some work to overcome subconscious thoughts and ideas that could be secretly limiting the success we experience.  Can you relate to any of these?

4. I’ll just do it myself.  I’ll get it done faster. – Can I be honest? This is B.S.  It’s been well documented by many of the “gurus” that if you want to grow, you have to let go.  The most successful people in business are not doing it all themselves. If you’re the kind that refuses to get help to run your business get ready to stay in struggle for a very long time.

5. I don’t want to set my prices too high. – So let me see if I have this straight, you don’t want to set your prices too high because you assume you know exactly how much everyone has to spend on your service? Or, you don’t want your prices to reflect how good you really are at what you do? Or is it that you just want to be in the average price range that’s accessible to any and everyone?  I’m sorry but I don’t want to associate with anyone that is striving for “average.”  Higher prices suggest greater value and expertise.  That’s the kind of mindset I want to work with.

6. I have to hustle to succeed.  – This is the mother-load of disempowering beliefs.  Hustling is so over-rated.  The only reason people hustle is because they’ve convinced themselves that they’ll lose something if they are caught taking time off.  Hustlers have an insecurity problem.  Hustlers have not fully bought in to the value they bring to the marketplace.  They are severely threatened by competition and truthfully, they need therapy.   Hustling is over-rated and you DO NOT have to hustle to succeed.  Freedom is the new definition of success.  If you’re not taking several weeks off in your business every year, it’s time to re-evaluate your systems, teams, clients and the results that you create.

Your thoughts? Which one of these beliefs are YOU ready to let go of?  Share below.  In my next post, I’ll reveal what you can do to replace these beliefs so you can soar in your business.
