Could your child become a millionaire?

My son is a millionaire.

The other day, I told my son that he could be a millionaire by the time he’s 25. He thought about it for a second and then he agreed. You should’ve seen the smile that spread across his face.

That’s because he has a lot more confidence about his money potential than I had at his age. Thank goodness for that. I refuse to project my old money story on to him. As far as he is concerned there’s plenty of money available to him…and he’s right.

Today, my son is 12 years old and he goes into the bank weekly by himself and deposits money. Sometimes it’s just $5, sometimes $20, sometimes more.  It doesn’t matter how much, what counts his HABIT of saving.

So how do you cultivate a positive money mindset in your kids? Start by talking to them about money in an affirmative way. Tell them they can and will be RICH and what that means. Talk about how rich they already are!

Avoid talking about money from a place of lack… saying things like “we can’t afford it,” or “money doesn’t grow on trees,” etc. Don’t make them feel shame or guilt about money even if you have not yet manifested the money abundance you desire. Instead, plant good seeds about money starting today. Start a savings or investment account for them. I don’t care if they are 9 or 29, it’s never too late! Now days you can start with as little as $5.

Get your children excited about saving and setting money goals. Cultivate a mindset of gratitude for all they have. Purchase a wallet for them. If they are entrepreneurial or have a special talent, help them start a business. When you do this, even as you expand your own money mindset, your children will most certainly have the potential to become young millionaires…now imagine how THAT would change the family money legacy.

Before you go Black Friday shopping, consider this.

Do you really need to shop on Black Friday?

Advertisers spend a boatload of money to get you to their stores on Black Friday.  It still surprises me that so many people fall for the hype.  How you spend your money is your business but this year, before you head out on Black Friday, ask yourself these 5 questions:

1. Have I been consistent with my savings for at least 6 months? — If not, redirect that money you want to spend to your savings account. You deserve that money more than Best Buy.

2. Have I been tithing regularly? — I don’t have enough space on this page to talk about how the act of tithing, when done consistently, will break any stronghold in your life and unleash OverFlow beyond what you can comprehend. Period. We’ll come back to this another day…

3. Can I pay for my purchases with 100% cash? – Resist the urge to charge purchases unless you can pay ALL OF IT off at the end of your billing cycle. I’m all for racking up rewards points for travel and what not, but if you cannot pay off credit card purchases in-full by month’s end, only use what your cash will afford you.

4. Do they really need the “stuff?” — It’s nice to buy your kids and loved ones stuff, but wouldn’t they be better served in the long run by giving them the gift of interest bearing savings and investment accounts that will grow over time and give them a foundation of wealth? Wouldn’t they be better served by investing in their future?

5. Do I currently have revolving debt that I can pay down instead of giving my money to a retailer to help THEM get out of debt? — Yes, they call it black friday because this is the day they lure you to their stores to help them get out of debt! So whose debt elimination is more important, yours or JCPenney’s?

See ladies, we’ve got to start changing the paradigm and really understanding the power behind every dollar in our purse. Don’t be so quick to spend it! The $1, $10, $20, $50 or $100 bill that’s sitting in your wallet right now could turn into thousands a few years from if you treat it right.

How you do money is how you do EVERYTHING. Don’t fall for the hype! Don’t be “black Friday” minded. Instead, be wealth and legacy minded!‪#‎weAreOverflow‬ ‪#‎foundationBEFOREelevation‬ ‪#‎savingisSexy‬
