Watch her reaction when the OverFlow community presents a check to support her cause

In February of 2016, OverFlow Coaches Keana Jones, Priscilla Williams and I joined forces to host a 5-day Bible study and prayer series for women leaders and entrepreneurs.  We decided to call it the Secrets of Wealth (SOW) because we wanted to explore the biblical principles of sowing.  It was such a powerful study that we decided to turn it into a product.

Because we understand that real wealth comes through generosity, we thought it would be appropriate to sow all of the proceeds from our first round of sales into a worthy organization that is making a difference in the lives of others.  Needless to say, there are many organizations doing great work in Chicago but when I thought about women who are completely fearless and selfless in their work, Diane Latiker, the founder of Kids Off the Block came to mind immediately!

So thanks to the support of the Certified OverFlow Coaching team, the OverFlow community and all of the people who invested in the SOW Bible Study and Prayer Series, we were able to make this contribution to Kids Off the Block.  Watch Diane’s reaction when we give her the check and listen as she explains how she will use the money.

FOR A LIMITED TIME: If you would like to invest in SOW to support Kids Off the Block go to this link!

Are your friends keeping you broke?

Friends don't let live be broke.

On the journey to building wealth, you must be very careful about who you surround yourself with.

Please, don’t take advice from people who are constantly battling broke-ness. They will only discourage your attempts to take wealth-building risks. Don’t spend all of your free time in the presence of people who chronically live in (and accept) lack. They will cause you to be less motivated, less driven and less optimistic about your destiny. They will also cause you to accept a life of mediocrity.  This is a proven fact.

Get in the presence of women who are on an upward income trajectory. If you know you want 7-figures in 2016 you MUST put yourself in the presence of millionaires. If you know you want 6-figures in 2016 you MUST be mentored by people who are currently there. Make a commitment to yourself in 2016. Elevate how you talk about money. Change your money story. Stop agreeing with people who say “money is tight.” That’s a lie from the pit of hell!

There is more than enough money in the universe for you to be rich right now. Up-level your inner circle.  Hang around people who see obstacles as opportunities.  Keep yourself in the presence of people who have a vision and know how to make moves in spite of fear because if everyone you hang around is broke, stressed and struggling, more than likely you will be too.

Are Black women REALLY “flat out broke?”
Oprah Winfrey one of three Black women billionaires worldwide

Today I have good news and some not-so-good news that will make you re-evaluate every money decision you make.

The good news is there are currently 3 known African-American women billionaires in the world. Of course, Oprah Winfrey is one. The other two are Angolan investor Isabel Santos and Nigerian oil magnate and fashion mogul Folorunsho Alakija. That’s according to Forbes Billionaires list. Pretty cool huh?

The not so good news is this: the median net worth for many Black women in America, according to a recent report from the Survey of Consumer Finances, is a dismal $100. A $100 net worth??? WTH!

Dr. Maya Rockeymoore, President of the Center for Global Policy Solutions conducted this study on the issue of Black women and wealth.  She summarized her findings by saying “black women are flat broke.”  Here’s a snippet of her interview on NewsOne NOW.

 Ouch.  That really hurts.

As a result of a low net-worth, Black women do not have a legacy to pass on to their children. As you may know, wealth in America is mainly acquired through inheritance but we typically have little or nothing to pass down.

The article goes on to reveal that many black women are vulnerable because they only have one source of income. If downsizing or illness occurs then what?

<<Shaking my head>>

Can you understand now why the OverFlow team is so passionate about changing your mindset around money and equipping you with the tools to turn this sad situation around? It doesn’t have to be this way. Our children deserve to have something to build on after we pass on. We should never EVER worry about money.

The change starts when we make better decisions about what’s more important. So what is most important when it comes to how you leverage your money?

Saving regularly or buying a new 60 inch TV for christmas?

Adding new income streams to your arsenal or adding more handbags?

Investing in a will and trust or investing in a new sew-in?

Listen, play time is over. This $100 dollar net worth madness stops now. Abundance is your birthright. Do your children and yourself a favor and connect with your OverFlow Coach today.  They have the exact tools you need to help you not fit into these tragic statistics.

Tomorrow is not promised and this issue cannot wait. The goal is to help you build a legacy of wealth for your family NOW so 2016 can truly be your year of more than enough.  So what are your thoughts, feelings or solutions on this issue? Please share below.

Could your child become a millionaire?

My son is a millionaire.

The other day, I told my son that he could be a millionaire by the time he’s 25. He thought about it for a second and then he agreed. You should’ve seen the smile that spread across his face.

That’s because he has a lot more confidence about his money potential than I had at his age. Thank goodness for that. I refuse to project my old money story on to him. As far as he is concerned there’s plenty of money available to him…and he’s right.

Today, my son is 12 years old and he goes into the bank weekly by himself and deposits money. Sometimes it’s just $5, sometimes $20, sometimes more.  It doesn’t matter how much, what counts his HABIT of saving.

So how do you cultivate a positive money mindset in your kids? Start by talking to them about money in an affirmative way. Tell them they can and will be RICH and what that means. Talk about how rich they already are!

Avoid talking about money from a place of lack… saying things like “we can’t afford it,” or “money doesn’t grow on trees,” etc. Don’t make them feel shame or guilt about money even if you have not yet manifested the money abundance you desire. Instead, plant good seeds about money starting today. Start a savings or investment account for them. I don’t care if they are 9 or 29, it’s never too late! Now days you can start with as little as $5.

Get your children excited about saving and setting money goals. Cultivate a mindset of gratitude for all they have. Purchase a wallet for them. If they are entrepreneurial or have a special talent, help them start a business. When you do this, even as you expand your own money mindset, your children will most certainly have the potential to become young millionaires…now imagine how THAT would change the family money legacy.

Your comfort zone is the most dangerous place in your world.

What would happen for you if you surrounded yourself with brilliant, visionary, successful, supportive people regularly?

This question came up for me over the weekend as I read a facebook post from an old high school classmate of mine. She said something like this:

“Sometimes you just have to get out of your comfort zone…the quality of the people I’ve been with for the last 3 days has been inspiring…”

one of my all time faves

Now I don’t know where she went or who she was around but I do know that feeling.  The feeling of being in a room where you feel lifted and empowered…where there is no competition, only a desire to see everyone succeed.  It’s a pretty cool feeling.  Especially if you’re most often around what I call “comfort zone lovers.”

Then, as I was reading Secrets of 6-figure Women by Barbara Stanny, I ran across this paragraph:

“Too often I see under-earners hanging out with pessimists, worrywarts, folks who are generally fearful.  The only thing people in that group will likely support is the status quo.  Six-figure women, on the other hand, are drawn to risk takers, or at the very least, to those who applaud their efforts to go out on a limb.

That spoke to me big time because I see the mindset often.  I had to break through it myself.

With all that said, there’s no need for a bunch of commentary on my part.  This stuff speaks for itself. So I’ll just go back to my original question:

What would happen for you if you surrounded yourself with brilliant, visionary, successful, supportive, happy people regularly?  What could you do if you were around people who refused to doubt you?

I’m serious, I really wanna know!  Add your brief response below and let’s get a conversation going.

How to shift your focus to expand your money

If you want to listen to this article, just click play

What you focus on grows and expands.  It’s a universal law.

The reason some people don’t get what they desire is because they focus on the opposite of what they want.

For example.  A woman told me she wanted more clients and higher income, yet she was focusing on the fact that there was never enough.  She was constantly frustrated over the lack she was experiencing in her business.  I invited her to shift her attention and start focusing on the kind of client she wanted to work with.

“Literally visualize what that client looks like and what it feels like to work with them,” I said.  I also recommended that she start feeling gratitude for the money she wanted to bring into her business.  She put these practices into place and immediately things began to change.

So if you want more peace and harmony in your life, focus on it.  Want more love and fulfillment? Focus on it.  Want more income?  The same rule applies…just focus on it!

Here are 5 simple ways you can shift your focus to create more cash in your business and your life.

1.  Stop ignoring your monthly banking, savings and other financial statements.  When they come in, take the time to review them thoroughly.  This helps you become familiar with your spending and savings patterns.  You should know exactly what’s coming in and what’s going out.

2.  Create an “over and above” monthly savings goal.  I’m a huge advocate of automating my savings.  Each month, a certain amount of money gets put aside automatically without me having to even think about it thanks to my online banking system.  However, I like to challenge myself to save more, even if it’s only $100.  This gives me a chance to think about ways I can cutback on certain unnecessary expenses or get creative about ways I can use my expertise to make even MORE money.

3.  Once a week, review your income and expenses.  Tools like mint.com or QuickBooks help you do this easily and conveniently.  Again, this gives you a chance to focus on your money so that it will grow and expand.

4.  Read something about money or wealth building at least once a week.  This can be a book, the money section of your local paper, a popular money magazine or just read something online.  Currently I’m reading this phenomenal book about money.  It’s fascinating!

5.  Journal or pray about your money daily.  This is a very powerful technique if done correctly.  If you journal about your money, don’t complain about not having enough.  Instead, use your journal to write about what you want your money situation to look like.  Likewise, when you pray about money, don’t talk to God about what you don’t have.  Instead, ask for divine wisdom on how to unleash an overflow of money in your life and then thank God for giving you access to abundance daily.

Which one of these strategies are you ALREADY using or ready to start using today?  Add your reply below.

6 beliefs that may be holding women entrepreneurs back – Part 1

Are these beliefs holding you back?

Most of the women entrepreneurs I come across are super smart and service-driven.  We come to the marketplace with a product or service and our emotions and passion are deeply embedded in every aspect of what we do.

I have found that most of us (self included) do what we do because we really want to serve, support and empower others in the world.

This is a good thing.

I honestly believe that this service-driven mindset could potentially propel women entrepreneurs into the new generation of high-earners that you keep hearing me talk about.

…but here’s the deal:  As women in business, we must learn how to be both service-driven and profit-focused.  When we do, we’ll begin to see our income sky-rocket and we’ll begin to embrace new levels of freedom and influence.

Sounds yummy right?  Well if we really want to get to that place, there are a few disempowering beliefs we have to let go of that may be holding us back:

1.) I’m not in business for the money.  – The next time you hear someone say this at a networking event, don’t walk, RUN to the other side of the room.  This is the most embarrassing statement a women entrepreneur can EVER make.  That statement will make potential investors or business partners drop you like a hot potato because it suggests that this is more of a hobby for you and you probably don’t really know the nuts and bolts of business success.

Listen, business is about profits and while I get the whole service-driven piece of it, I still believe you can be profit-focused at the same time.  You do not have to give up one for the other.  Here’s an interesting article I read recently on this topic.  You’ll find it revealing.

2.) I can’t afford it. – B.S. you can afford anything you want to.  I’ve seen women magically find money for handbags, travel excursions, designer dresses and any number of other things they really want.  If you decide not to invest in something that will actually help you (like coaching, mentoring or professional development tools), just be honest and say, “At this time, I am making a decision NOT to invest in the thing that will help me…”  Tell the dang truth!  “I can’t afford it” is an excuse, a curse and a lie!

3.) Let me think about it. – This statement by itself has to be one of the lamest I’ve ever heard.  Not that there’s anything wrong with thinking things over but the key is putting a deadline to it.  Highly successful women might say something like this:  “let me think about it and I will give you my decision by tomorrow at 12 noon.  How does that work for you?”  See the difference?  You’ve heard me say a million times, successful women are decisive and as my coach says, “waiting is NOT a success strategy.”

Do any of these sound familiar?  Share your gut reactions below and get ready for part two.  In part two of this article, I share 3 more mindsets that may be holding women entrepreneurs back. Click here to read.

Do you have what it takes to be a millionaire? Take the quiz.

Do you have what it takes?

Many women entrepreneurs think that reaching millionaire status is only about hard work.  They are wrong.

Building a great life with the added benefit of great money is based on your emotions and beliefs more than anything else.

Don’t get me wrong, hard work has value but it is not the only thing that makes you a millionaire.  I’m willing to bet that you know several people who “work hard” and are still broke or just getting by.

So what does it take to become a card-carrying member of the new generation of high-earning women entrepreneurs?  Do you really have what it takes to be rich?

I put together a short quiz so you can get an idea of where you stand.  Answer the questions below with a simple “true or false.”  Once you tally up your answers, I’ll shed some light on what they could mean.  Have fun and be honest!

WHAT YOUR RESULTS COULD MEAN

If you answered 2 to 3 of the questions with “True,” then you have a millionaire mindset.  All it takes is some small shifts and you could possibly break into millionaire status within 3 years or less!

If you answered 4 to 6 of the questions with “True,” you’re like most people who have bought into the limiting beliefs that the permeate our culture.  By creating a few simple new habits around money and by refusing to believe the lies and rumors about money, you could become a millionaire within 3 – 5 years.

If you answered “True” to 7 or more of the questions all is not lost but I recommend that you get help as soon as possible!  With regular study of money, how it’s used, how it can expand and why it matters, your situation can change eventually.  I also recommend connecting with a coach or mentor who can help you strategically make the shift within 5 – 7 years.

In my next post, I will elaborate on a few of the questions above that I feel deserve deeper exploration.

Is her religion keeping her broke?

the UNLEASH book is now free

According to research conducted by the American Express OPEN Small Business Monitor, the average female business owner salary is $63,000 a year.

Now this ain’t bad, but personally, I believe the value we bring to our work is worth way more than $63K a year.

Plus, unlike our male counterparts, female business owners are more likely to have to work a second job to make ends meet. The reason? Costly (and common) mistakes that leave some of us with an inconsistent flow of clients and cash.

This problem is easy to fix.  Here’s one solution:

My friend, Leesa Renee Hall, has just dropped a brand new book designed to help Christian female business owners unleash the flow of money in their ministries and businesses.  Her tribe is itching to get their hands on THIS!!

And get this, she’s giving away copies of this book for dirt cheap but ONLY for the next few days.

I frickin love the title.  It’s called…

Unleash the Flow of Money: The 7 Biggest Mistakes That Keep Christian Female Business Owners Frustrated With Inconsistent Cashflow – And How to Avoid These Mistakes Once & For All.

Hot right?  You can click right here and grab it now.

Leesa shows you:

  • The 3 words killing your cashflow (and what you need to do instead)
  • Why growing your business through referrals is a lousy way to create consistent cashflow
  • The single reason why the Proverbs 31 woman did not lose money or go into debt while doing her many tasks
  • The #1 way to make money fun and enjoyable – especially if you hate to do budgets
  • Why you attract needy, over-demanding and rude clients (and how to stop this cycle once and for all.

Remember – Leesa is making copies of her book available for a tiny fee but only until February 24, 2014 – or once 2500 copies have been claimed – whichever comes first.

Are your undercharging for your services? Part 2: How to stop that madness right now.

You are too brilliant to be broke

I got a LOT of feedback from my last article which asked the question: Are you under-charging for your services?  Several people honestly admitted that at one time they were “chronic under-chargers,” but thankfully, they are now on the road to recovery.

For the entrepreneurs who still struggle with this problem, keep reading.

So how do you stop under-charging?  Here are just a few suggestions:

1.) Pinpoint a niche.  This takes a ton of courage. Low-earning entrepreneurs tend to think that focusing on a niche will cause them to lose a larger share of the market. In fact I had a conversation with an entrepreneur just the other day who said, “If I only focus on women over 40 with xyz problem, then I’ll be excluding all the men!”   She was deeply concerned about this.

I settled her fears when I said this:  ”By focusing on women over 40 with xyz problem, you become more appealing to that specific group.  You’ll speak their specific language, share solutions to their specific problems and then you will become a magnet for that group.  They’ll begin to recommend their girlfriends, relatives and colleagues because you’re positioning yourself as the expert who has the solution to their unique problems…”

I went on to say, “as they experience your awesome results, guess what…they’ll begin to bring their hubbies in too!”  Immediately she saw the light.

Pinpointing a niche is like courting.  When your man takes you out on a date, there are tons of other women at the restaurant, many of them  drop-dead gorgeous.  However, his attention is focused only on YOU.  He’s admiring YOU.  He’s listening to YOU.  He’s talking to YOU.  This makes you want to invest more time with HIM, right???

Contrarily, if his eyes are roaming all over the place and he’s winking at other chicks, you quickly decide he’s not the right one.  On to the next…

It’s the same with choosing a niche. The biggest brands in the world became successful because they new exactly who they wanted to reach and they courted that group.  Sure, others can come along and enjoy the benefits of working with you but you gotta always know who your target is.  Let your marketing be a love song to them.

2.) Focus on outcomes.  Under-earning entrepreneurs like to explain the details of how they’ll get you results.  That’s a waste of time.  Simply highlight the outcome or the result you provide and that’s how you get people to say yes.

For example, if you’re a massage therapist, don’t go on about what kind of hot stones and how much pressure you’re gonna put on my back, legs, arms and shoulders, just tell me which massage is best suited for my particular problem (’cause you’re the expert) and assure me that by the time you’re done I’ll be completely relaxed, my headache will be gone and I’ll sleep like a baby.  With that, I’m like “where do I sign up?”

3.) Collect testimonials.  This is one of the easiest marketing tactics to employ but it is often overlooked by under-earning entrepreneurs.  Testimonials give you instant credibility.  They can be the key to helping a prospective client make a decision to work with you.  They’re like free commercials, selling your services even when you’re not around.  Always invite happy clients to share feedback about what you did for them.  With good testimonials, you’ll have an easier time raising your fees.

4.) Offer packages at premium rates (to attract high-paying clients).  I hereby declare that the days of charging by the hour for your brilliance are officially over.  If you want to start earning what you’re worth, start creating premium packages that bring value to your client and allow them to work with you over a longer period of time.  Let them experience your magic as you build a loyal partnership.  The more results they get from working with you, the more likely they are to continue working with you…and soon they won’t be able to live without you.

I’m willing to guarantee that if you implement these 4 strategies today, you can start raising your fees within the next 30 days.  Are you ready to take this challenge?  If yes, check in below.
